Aimee

If you’ve seen us on Facebook, opened one of our emails or flipped through our spring magazine, you’ve seen how much Aimee has brought to Salisbury. Her eye for beautiful design has found the perfect subject in our beautiful flowers. She takes most of our photos, designs our advertising and signage, and guides the “look” of every message going out whether digitally or printed. A combination of skill and passion, she loves what she does and so do the people seeing and reading her work. If you see her in the greenhouse taking pictures, stop and say hi because she’d love to hear from you, but she’s fast so you’ll have to catch her first!

Besides admiring the plants, I can be found at Salisbury…
on facebook. No really, I am usually the one key stroking behind our social media channels. You can also find me running around with my camera taking pictures of everything in bloom. Although, most of my time is spent at the key board designing the magazine, brochures, how-to’s, and web graphics. Are you jealous yet? My job is pretty great!

My favourite plant is…
when you love nature, it’s hard to choose so I’ll give you my top three. I love lilac trees, especially when they’re buzzing with bees. The fluffy petals and delightful smell of peonies always lure me in. And dahlietta’s are complete eye-candy.

What I love most about gardening is…
eating. I like grazing as I garden. And truthfully, I don’t spend a lot of time beautifying. I let nature do the tough work. Seeing seedlings sprout, fruit hang, bugs working, and plants thriving gives me such a feeling of accomplishment. I also love harvest time, because it means my taste buds are dutifully rewarded for labour of summer.

I grew up in… Edmonton and my fondest memories of there will always is… growing up in a quiet neighbourhood, with a field and a ravine outside out front door, and neightbour kids on either side. I spent hours exploring the trees, racing bikes on foot, playing hide and seek, and jumping fences. Our imaginations were boundless.

As a child, I dreamed of being a…
an official crayola crayon tester.
I moved on to wanting microbiologist, when I thought the tv show flipper was what my life would look like. But in all seriousness I dreamed of being an engineer, a teacher, or an assistant to deaf students.

If I had no limitations, I would be working as…
a motivational speaker. It’s a profession that would let me travel the world and would give me the opportunity to inspire people to see their hidden potential. People are pretty awesome, sometimes they just need a little help seeing their awesome-ness.

Something you’d be surprised to learn about me is…
I like to lift really heavy stuff and being active. I’ve dabbled in running, sprint triathlons, cycling, and power lifting. I’m pleased to say, at my best I could squat 182lb. for a single and deadlift 200lb. for reps.

My favourite guilty pleasure, closet snack food is…
Bacon Bombs! Almond stuffed dates, wrapped in bacon and baked. Drool. Worthy.

I love telling people that I’ve traveled to…
Spain. This high school trip gave me a whole new perspective on the world. To experience the architecture, art, and culture left a deep impression on me. I didn’t want to come home. The trip made me want to see the entire world.

If I was a superhero my name would be…
Hmmm… maybe the Photonator.

My all time favourite movie…
As a movie buff, it’s hard to pick one! Top three: Pride and Prejudice, Avatar, Momento.

The book I could read again and again is…
There is only one series of books I’ve ever read twice. I like to be surprised so I tend to switch up my reading material. I really enjoy reading mysteries, fantasy, and romance novels. When all three genres are combined, I’m rendered almost incapable of putting the book down.

My life motto is…
I don’t know if I have a single motto. I love this quote by John Lennon: “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” It’s a solid reminder to be present in your life. If you’re always working towards the next monumental moment of happiness, you’ll end up missing all the mini moments in between and the mini moments are pretty great too.

My colleagues would most likely describe me as…
After a little bribing… err… poll taking this is what some of my colleagues said:

“…distractingly fun, dedicated, hard-wroking, versatile, flexible, patient, creative, organized, willing to go the extra mile, positive despite obstacles, kind, happy and a friend. A positive spirit that invigorates the working atmosphere with creativity and passion.”

Gee, thanks guys!
